About the Event
If you are looking for a lockdown activity for your 11-16 yr. olds, my next Zoom Healthy Cookery Skills Programme starts in March 2021 after school and still has a few spaces available. We will fix a time and day to suit the group.
Perfect for young people who would like to cook together, learn new skills and be a part of a fun group or for those wanting to achieve their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze/Silver 3-month life skills section of the award.
This activity may count towards your Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Skills Section, please check with your D of E Leader for applicability before booking.
12 weeks of delicious healthy recipes, core cookery skills and Steph’s Top Tips to good nutrtion and healthy eating. Plus, we have a good natter about all thing’s food, kitchen hygiene, good nutrition, time management and a weekly catch up.
All the recipes are provided as well as step-by-step tuition from Steph. Students can interact each other online and be encouraged to photograph their dishes, plus fill in the course pack provided for evidence if needed.
As a former teacher of Food and Nutrition, Steph will be able to complete the online assessment report at the end of the course for those completing their D of E.
Classes are fun, informal and provide students with a fantastic opportunity to try a diverse selection of recipes and cook supper for the family at the same time. A recipe pack will be provided.

Course overview
Week 1: Home-made granola
Hygiene and safety, how to read a recipe. Making a healthy breakfast.
Week 2: Healthy chicken korma with basmati rice
Handling high a risk food.
Week 3: Fish finger sandwich and tartare sauce
Cooking fish, shaping and enrobing, knife skills.
Week 4: Veggie burgers with sweet potato fries
Shaping and moulding, cooking a vegetarian dish.
Week 5: Mac and cheese with a broccoli twist
Making a sauce, cooking pasta al dente.
Week 6: Oven baked risotto with bacon, peas and Parmesan
Working with rice, absorption method.
Week 7: Baked salmon with ginger noodles
Working with fish, stir frying, knife skills, using a wok.
Week 8: Steph's tasty Bolognese
Working with mince, fine knife skills and flavour profiling.
Week 9: Halloumi/chicken and vegetable fajitas with tomato salsa
Knife skills, making your own spice blend.
Week 10: Cheese and chive scones
Rubbing in method.
Week 11: Soda bread and speedy tomato soup
Making a dough, blending a soup.
Week 12: Lemon drizzle cake
Working with citrus fruits, creaming method.
